Several months ago when we visited a cool Atlanta treasure, Paris on Ponce, I signed myself up for a terrarium building class at a shop there, Terraria (that was the night we won a TRIP TO PARIS). I got an email in late September that it was time for the fall session, so Thomas and I made it a date night and took home an adorable little terrarium.
Nicolette and Vance, Terraria’s owners, are amazing terrarium coaches, as one offers ‘real talk’ advice and the other is sweet and encouraging. They also have a TON of insight into the plants and caring for them, as well as terrarium theory and practice. The class is $10 per person, which includes wine and snacks. Even better, the $10 ($20 for us) goes towards the terrarium glass and innards you purchase, making it quite reasonable for a take home date.
We built our terrarium together, and are SO happy with the result.
Here are some pieces we included – an air fern, a bauble, red moss, a thin shell thing, a fake ring (there is a symbolic/personal story behind that junker) and a beautiful blue shell.
The items inside the terrarium can be placed with your hands, or, if you have big hands [Thomas], chopsticks.
Here’s the finished product, to which we added black sand, small white rocks, a few shiny rocks, and a speckled feather.
We had so much fun at our terrarium class, and would absolutely recommend it if you’re in the Atlanta/Midtown area. It was such a great date night, and we ended up with a beautiful treasure to display for under $40!
